Kathryn Kates was a well-known character actor who had an impressive television resume. TV junkies might remember Kates as a counterwoman on two episodes of Seinfeld and in the role of judge Marlene Simons in several episodes of Law & Order: SVU. Sadly, Kathryn has passed away at the age of 73.

Kates’ agent confirmed the news with USA Today. Ben Jordan said Kathryn’s passing came after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Kathryn Kates was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of her death.

Erica Bines, another agent working for Kates, said the loss was heartbreaking. Manager Bob McGowan said Kathryn never complained despite her grave illness. Katheryn was a fighter.

Kathryn said her goodbyes via Instagram a few days ago. The actress read from Shakespeare’s Sonnet 77. It was an emotional farewell for a beloved figure.

Katheryn Kates will always be remembered for her many contributions and memorable roles on television. Kates battled until the end, just as her loved ones expected. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kates family during this difficult time.
