Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriend said in a new docuseries that the Playboy founder groomed her as a young adult. Sondra Theodore was among the women who shared their experiences with Hefner ahead of the A&E docuseries “Secrets of Playboy,” which is set to premiere on January 24.

According to an exclusive report by Entertainment Tonight’s Liz Calvario and Lauren Zima, Theodore met Hefner, who was 50 at the time, at a party and he chose her to be his girlfriend. According to the site, Theodore, who was 19 at the time, alleged that he groomed her for five years into bringing other women into their bed.

He had this way of making everything go away and questioning yourself … He said, ‘Do you think that they can just stay in my house and not sleep with me?’ And that was, Whoa!

Would you have dinner guests and expect that of them? No. It was just so cold and callous and not the man that I’ve fallen in love with. I didn’t know who this man was.

Theodore claimed that Hefner’s “charm” and “words” “reeled” her back to him. Theodore also mentioned that the realization wasn’t prompted by what he said, but rather by how he expressed it. “We tried for years to come out with our story and we were blocked,” she said, adding that the #MeToo Movement helped establish a forum for such claims to be shared.

Playboy’s representatives did not react to Insider’s request for comment right away. The Playboy creator, who was married to Crystal Hefner, died of natural causes in September 2017 at the age of 91. Other women, including Hefner’s former lover Holly Madison, have spoken out against him ahead of the docuseries. From 2001 through 2008, Hefner and Madison were together.
