Willie Gay was arrested on January 19th after a domestic incident with his mother. Gay damaged a vacuum cleaner and some other things during the argument. It couldn’t have come at a worse time. The Chiefs are preparing for a second round NFL playoff matchup with the red-hot Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs are fortunate that Gay will not have to miss Sunday’s game. Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes will have one more weapon in their arsenal on the road to the Super Bowl. Reid confirmed that Gay will participate on Friday.
Willie didn’t have much to say about the incident. In his first public comment since the arrest, Gay said just one word. It was a biblical term that refers to God.
The Chiefs will need Willie Gay against the high-powered Buffalo offense led by quarterback Josh Allen. Buffalo put on a clinic against Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots last week, 47-17. Kansas City’s defense will face a far more stout challenge than the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to deliver.
Willie Gay will likely have to pay for the damage he caused and pay a small fine. The charges aren’t expected to carry any jail time. Kansas City is fortunate the situation didn’t escalate further.
