Netflix’s Don’t Look Up, from director Adam McKay, features a star-studded cast playing out a satire about the end of the world. The movie features a star studded cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, etc. Now viewers have found an amazing detail in the movie which are making them laugh out loud.
In one scene, DiCaprio’s character, Randall Mindy, appears in a public service announcement urging Americans to call a phone number 1-800-532-4500. It was for people who wanted to get “peace of mind” as a planet-killing comet heads toward Earth. When dialed the number leads to an apparent adult hotline.
Anyone dialing the number is connected to an automated message from a female voice. It says: “Welcome to America’s hottest hotline. Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you. Press 1 now.” — “Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press 2 to connect free now.”
Fans took to social media over the weekend to compare notes. Twitter was flooded with posts relating to the hotline no. People were laughing at the fact that they decided to put an adult hotline number inside a movie.
“Kudos to you Don’t Look Up to having the BASH hotline for their asteroid stress prevention hotline being linked to a Hot Singles in Your Area phone number,”
“Why did Don’t Look Up put a phone number on their movie only for it to be a sex line?????”
It’s still unclear if the number was a prank deliberately inserted into the movie or a coincidence. Director Adam McKay’s recently admitted that the appearance of the film crew in one scene wasn’t an editing fail, but actually planned. So this might not be much of a coincidence.
This was a great fun poked at the viewers who apparently had no idea that the number would lead to such an unexpected place. Viewers who called the number must have laughed their heart out when they heard the voice on the other side. It’s not always that a movie prank viewers and hence this was a hilarious one.
