Pittsburgh Steelers fans are among the most loyal in the National Football League. Watch any away game and you will quickly notice a sea of invading supporters wearing the black and gold. Tonight, they are preparing to witness the end of an era.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has led Pittsburgh to three Super Bowls. He has won two. That places him in a very elite class among the QB fraternity.

It looks like tonight’s game against the hated Cleveland Browns will be his last appearance in front of the home fans at Heinz Field. Roethlisberger recently said that he believes he will hang up his cleats after this season. The Tribune Review has covered the retirement rumors extensively.

“I don’t ever speak in definites or guarantees. That’s not how I’ve ever done it or who I am, but looking at the bigger picture, I would say all signs are pointing that this could be it.”

Big Ben has had a mediocre season by his standards. Many would kill for the kinds of stats he’s putting up during his last hurrah. Roethlisberger has compiled 3,373 yards with 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions so far this year.

Tonight will likely mark his final game in front of the home fans of the only team he’s played for in his professional career. Emotions will surely be running high. Pittsburgh fans will have a moment to reflect on a career that brought them tons of great memories over the years.
