Dan Reeves, an NFL veteran and well-respected coach, has passed away at the age of 77-years-old. He etched his place in NFL history through an acclaimed career on the sidelines.

Reeves died on Saturday as a consequence of complications following a protracted illness, according to reports by TMZ.

Dan Reeves had a long and successful career both on and off the field. After a successful athletic career in South Carolina, he entered the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys in 1965. He was a running back for America’s Team for eight seasons, winning Super Bowl VI in 1972.

From 1974 until 1980, Reeves worked as an assistant coach for the Cowboys, reaching the Super Bowl three times and winning it all in 1978. From 1981 until 1992, Reeves was the head coach of the Denver Broncos, who won three Super Bowls with quarterback John Elway.

Reeves eventually became head coach of the New York Giants in 1993, guiding them to the playoffs in his first year. He took over as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 1997, establishing a 14-2 record in his second season and meeting Elway and the Broncos in Super Bowl XXXIII.

Reeves had a 190-165-2 record as an NFL head coach in 23 seasons, reaching the playoffs nine times. In 2014, he was inducted into the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame. The team was devasted after listening to the news and had something to say.
