The Game is known for his hard-hitting beats and take-no-prisoners bars. His name is coming up in conversation now and his music is taking center stage once again.

During Drink Champs, Claudia Jordan, Rosa, and Melyssa discussed sexualization in hip hop a few years ago. The group talked about The Game’s 2007 song “Wouldn’t Get Far,” which featured Kanye West. Melissa described how that track pushed her to depression and ruined her relationship. She just returned to the lyrics and had something to say about it.

Melyssa Ford has been tortured by this song for over 16 years, and she is now speaking out about it. The Game released his famous hit “Wouldn’t Get Far” in 2006, in which he mentions a few ladies in the industry, ranging from rappers like Lil Kim to then-video vixens like Melyssa Ford.

While several of the ladies received lyrical compliments from Game about their appearance or style, Ford wasn’t delighted with the bars that featured her name.

“And all these new video bitches tryin to be Melyssa Ford / But they don’t know Melyssa Ford drive a Honda Accord / She a video vixen, but behind closed doors / She do whatever it take to get to the Grammy Awards.”

Ford revisited the lyrics and then Noreaga cut her off to inquire if she had ever owned a Honda Accord.

“So he writes—I think that this was his love letter to me, I think his love letter to me was, ‘Wouldn’t get far and Melyssa Ford—every girl wants to be Melyssa Ford, video girl, blah, blah, blah,’ I never—at the time, I was driving a f*ckin’ Mercedes F550… It was supposed to be a diss.”

When asked if she honestly felt Game was out to harm her, Ford defended herself. She mentioned this before reciting the lyrics and mentioning that she was invited to the Grammys that year. She didn’t want to disclose her possible suitors at first, but she soon revealed she received two invitations from Ludacris and Chingy.

Melissa attempted to move on from the line that has plagued her for years. Let’s see whether she can keep her optimistic attitude throughout.
