Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon III: The Chosen finally dropped it’s vinyl earlier this month. Fans were thrilled with Kid’s recent release as it smashed records.
According to Billboard, the album sold 41,500 vinyl copies just past week. It’s the fourth best-selling album of the period just behind Adele’s 30, Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) and Bo Burnham’s Inside(The Songs).
However, this isn’t the album’s only achievement. Chart Data tweeted, the album has broken records for the biggest vinyl sales this week for both a male artist and a rap album in Neilsen history.
On Dec. 28, Kid Cudi took to Instagram with excitement to celebrate his record-breaking act. In his post, he thanked his fans who made this possible. Although with all his popularity and influence, Kid Cudi isn’t the one known for his album sales. Only four of his seven solo LPs have earned a plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA),
“This is HUGE. I wanna thank everyone who went out and copped the vinyl! This is all because of YOU! I LOVE YOU ALL!!”
Man on the Moon III: The Chosen became a commercial resurgence for the rapper. The album dropped in Dec. 2020 debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 with 144,000 album-equivalent units sold in it’s first week. The Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager remains his highest sales tally with 169,000 copies sold.
Kid Cudi will be hoping to carry his hot streak into 2022 with his forthcoming album Entergalactic. It’s set to drop alongside an animated Netflix series in the summer. You can listen to some of his unreleased songs below.
