Britney Spears is now free of a restrictive conservatorship and her father lost a lot of power. Jamie Spears spoke out about his daughter in 2003 and seemed to attack her. This did not go well in Britney’s camp.

Britney Spear’s father, Jamie Spears set the record straight about his involvement in the 2003 Diane Sawyer interview. Jamie’s lawyer, Alex Weingarten, denied his client’s involvement in a statement given to Variety on December 15.

Then Britney Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, was quick to issue his statement to Variety in response. He encouraged Spears’ father to focus on answering questions regarding financial issues and eavesdropping allegations rather than criticizing his daughter over a TV interview from nearly two decades ago.

“Rather than bullying and attacking his daughter, even as he claims to ‘love’ her, it would be far more appropriate for Mr. Spears and his lawyer to focus on answering the following fundamental questions, to start, which we have been asking for months.”

Rosengart’s statement is in reference to the ongoing legal battle between Spears and her father, plus former business manager, Tri Star Sports and Entertainment. The company has been accused of running an intense surveillance apparatus that tracked the singer’s communications and bugged her home.

Britney’s story has placed a spotlight on the nasty treatment of women and narratives surrounding them in media. We really hope that she can overcome the situation and heal from it. Read this now deleted Instagram post where Britney calls Diane Sawyer out, below.
