Front Office Sports published the top five male and female athletes from the social media outlet’s #OnlyOnTwitter. The Thursday announcement had the likes of LeBron James and Simone Biles leading the most tweeted athletes list.

With 2021 wrapping up, Twitter released data for the most tweeted athletes, teams and moments of the year. It’s no surprise that the most tweeted sporting event of the year was the Tokyo Olympic Games. Team USA gymnast Simone Biles was the most tweeted about female athlete.

Simone Biles is the most tweeted about Olympian with more than 3 million tweets about her. Biles also saw the most liked celebrity tweet of the year. Her tweet thanking fans for their support as she looked after her mental health got more than 1.3 million likes.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James was the most tweeted about male athlete of the year. His team Los Angeles Lakers was the most tweeted about team of 2021. Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t make the list of the five most tweeted male athletes.

Manchester United’s tweet announcing CR7’s return to the Old Trafford was the second-most retweeted post worldwide this year. Super Bowl LV was the second-most tweeted sporting event of 2021.

Besides Simone Biles, the most tweeted about female athletes include Naomi Osaka, Sasha Banks, Serena Williams and Bianca Belair in order of their ranking. The most tweeted about male athletes include LeBron James, Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, Kyrie Irving and Aaron Rodgers.
