Joshua Bassett opened up about the emotionally damaging time of his life. In a recent interview, he spoke about how he experienced a lot of sexual abuse throughout his childhood.

In a recent interview with GQ, the 20-year-old actor revealed his dark past. Joshua had his past trauma blocked and buried deep inside until last year. He explained how he’s just starting to process the traumatic experience he recalled after so many years.

“I didn’t remember that until last year, which is pretty insane. I buried it so far. And when I was a teen, a much older man routinely abused me, and I wasn’t able to see it for what it was at the time.”

Bassett expressed how he did some soul-searching with the aid of self-help books, journals, and therapy in recent months. After moving out of his West Village apartment in New York, he focused on self-healing and mental peace.

Joshua said that he is so much stronger than he was before. He plans to dive deeper into his journey on an upcoming episode of a podcast series for “heavy talks.” It takes a lot of courage and Bassett believes the conversation will hopefully help people who are experiencing the same.
