Kyrie Irving has been sidelined for the entire NBA season. His refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19 has led to his extended break. Since he plays for the Brooklyn Nets, that means he can’t work.

While Kyrie has painted himself as a martyr of personal choice, it doesn’t make up for the lost paychecks. Recently, Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium talked to Pat McAfee about what it will take for Kyrie Irving to play in the NBA this year. It seems as if there’s only one option.

“Kyrie Irving is nowhere closer to getting the vaccine & he’s not gonna play basketball unless he gets traded.”

The Nets are in first place, even without one of their star players. James Harden and company could only get better with the addition of Kyrie, but he is not budging on receiving the shot. Fortunately, Brooklyn has been able to work past the distraction and stay focused.

Short of New York dropping their vaccine mandate, there is no chance he will play for the Nets this season. A trade is not out of the question. Other teams have expressed interest.

If the right return is there, the Nets may consider moving the point guard. Until then, he will continue to make strange Instagram posts. Basketball seems to be the furthest thing from Kyrie Irving’s mind, though.
