Original: Teen Mom: Family Reunion showed Amber Portwood receiving surprising news from ex Gary Shirley about their daughter. The mother-daughter duo suffer a strained relationship since Portwood ditched Leah’s 12th birthday party.
On the season finale of “Teen Mom OG,” Leah’s Dad, Gary Shirley attended a therapy session with her mother. The goal was for Shirley to get a deeper understanding of Amber’s mental health.
Throughout the season, viewers have watched Amber try to unsuccessfully rebuild her strained relationship with Leah. In recent episodes, Leah started asking questions about her mom’s past and wanted to continue keeping her distance. She has been living full time with Gary and his wife Kristina Shirley.
The drama first exacerbated when Portwood went on an infamous Instagram live rant and accused Kristina Shirley, Leah’s stepmom, of being a “wh*re” and a “homewrecker” in March 2021. Fans have also claimed that Amber shaded her daughter in Thanksgiving by posting her celebration with nephews.
In the special, the Never Too Late author received some new information from ex Gary Shirley about their 12-year-old daughter, Leah. Turns out, the middle school student recently started therapy.
“Here’s the thing; I’m the mother,” Amber explained. “I need to understand what Leah is going through so I believe the communication should be there for that. I also think that Leah is a child. She is not an adult. She doesn’t need to say anything, but you can tell me.”
“You came out here with some bull crap. I just found out on camera, of course. Everything that you do is for television. Done!” she proclaimed. “Everything that he does is for television. I’m out. Bye!”
Amber proceeded to call her ex “garbage” before venting to a producer. “He can keep making his money off of me,” she said. “This is ridiculous…I’m done.”
While Amber initially appeared supportive of Leah’s decision to speak with a therapist, she didn’t like how Gary shared the news. In the next second Amber was storming off the set while cussing out Gary. MTV announced on Tuesday Nov. 30 that an eight-episode spinoff special will premiere on MTV on January 8, 2022 with the OG cast, Farrah Abraham, Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout and many others.
