Brian Laundrie’s girlfriend Gabby Petito’s family reported her missing on September 11, and her body was found September 19. Brian went missing on September 17 and his disappearance sparked a nationwide manhunt. New information is still coming to light in this story.

Brian killed himself, an autopsy report revealed on Tuesday. Laundrie’s remains were found in a Florida nature preserve last month. Just one month after Petito was found strangled to death on the edge of Wyoming’s Grand Teton national park. The couple had been traveling together in a van.

Attorney, Steven Bertolino informed TMZ, Chris, and Roberta Laundrie surrendered all of the guns in their home to police back on September 17. They didn’t reveal that a handgun was missing. Bertolino said that the law enforcement felt it was best not to reveal the gun was missing. He also said Brian’s parents “were shocked the gun was missing and they were upset.”

A Florida medical examiner concluded Brian Laundrie died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Authorities have not said if the missing handgun was found at the scene.

It remains a mystery if there was a gun with Brian. Why wasn’t a warning sent out that he might be armed and dangerous? After all, he was missing for weeks and he could have been on the run.

Brian returned to Florida from a cross-country trip he’d gone on with his fiancee, Gabby Petito. He came back by himself with Gabby not present by his side. Shortly after coming back to North Port again and seeing his parents, Brian himself disappeared without a trace.
