Toronto Blue Jays recently made an insane deal with Jose Berrios. From the looks of it, the two have come to an agreement on a lucrative contract. Berrios is certainly going to be laughing all the way to the bank.
According to ESPN, Toronto and Jose Berrios have agreed to a seven-year contract extension worth $131 million. The team acquired the 27-year-old right-hander at the trade deadline from the Minnesota Twins.
Right after that, Jose Berrios went 5-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 12 starts for the Blue Jays down the stretch. Berrios went 12-9 overall this year as he set career bests with a 3.52 ERA and 204 strikeouts. He is 60-47 with a 4.04 ERA in his six-year career.
Berrios is a two-time All-Star and was going to become a free agent next year after the season of the season. Of course, that is no longer happening as he will now stay with the team for the next seven years.
The Blue Jays finished third in the AL East last season with a 91-71 record and have also acquired the expertise of veteran left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu and promising upstart Alek Manoah in their rotation. We will have to wait and see how well Jose Berrios will continue to play in the next seven years.
