Harry Potter fans got some awesome news today, as HBO announced “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.” The reunion special will premiere on HBO Max on New Year’s Day. Filmmaker Chris Columbus and other cast members will join series stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson for the retrospective feature.

Also joining the trio of stars are Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman, Bonnie Wright, and more. The anniversary celebration will offer fans a special look at the making of the entire Harry Potter film series. Tom Ascheim, president of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults, and Classics, made a statement regarding the special which was published by Variety.

“It has been an incredible journey since the debut of the ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ film, and witnessing how it has evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least.

This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon — from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.”

An exclusive sneak-peek at the special will air during “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses” on November 28. The quiz show airs on TBS and Cartoon Network and is hosted by Helen Mirren. The show will also feature tons of special Potter-themed guests.

WarnerMedia also plans to air the HBO Max special on cable television. As a promotional vehicle for the theatrical debut of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” the show will air on TBS and Cartoon Network. That airing is scheduled to take place in the Spring of 2022.
