TJ Osborne excitedly kissed boyfriend Abi Ventura after he and brother John took home a Country Music Association award for best duo. The Brothers Osborne, who have been major country stars for nearly a decade, became a favorite with the LGBTQ+ community after TJ came out as gay.

In the conservative country music industry, it’s incredibly brave to come out. TJ made the announcement in February, making his success in country music even more satisfying. He’d worried about whether he’d be accepted by the country community. He described his feelings as the brothers accepted their award for Best Vocal Duo.

“It’s been a crazy roller coaster of a year for us in so many ways, especially for me emotionally. And to have you all support me, it really does feel like love wins tonight. Thank you.”

After the show, TJ talked about his fears to Entertainment Tonight. He wasn’t even sure about bringing Abi to the show. He ultimately overcame his anxiety and was glad he did.

“I was like, ‘I hope this doesn’t make anyone uncomfortable, but this is how I feel.’ I love this person, and I want to be open in every way. It’s wonderful that he ultimately went through with it, because the reality is that he shouldn’t have to worry about how others feel about who he loves.

But it’s a worry he’s carried for a long time, sharing that even though he’d long aspired to be on the stage at the CMAs, he wasn’t sure it could happen for him. “I always truthfully felt like it would never be possible because of my sexuality to be here.”

The award marked the fourth time the brothers have won Vocal Duo of the Year. This time was the most special of all. After TJ Osborne came out, he was nervous about whether he’d get the support of country fans. It turns out that fans of The Brothers Osborne just want to enjoy the music and let love be love.
