The family of Astroworld victim Rudy Peña intends to set up a scholarship fund in Rudy’s name. He was one of eight people killed in a crowd stampede at last weekend’s Astroworld festival in Houston. Family attorney Rosendo Almaraz spoke to TMZ about the plan.

Almaraz says Rudy’s family hope to establish the scholarship at Laredo College. Rudy was a criminal justice major at the school. Work on the fund has not formally begun, but the family intends to go through with it at some point after the legal issues are settled.

Rudy’s family raised $34,000 in a GoFundMe campaign after the horrible events at Astroworld. Some of that money is earmarked for his funeral. The remainder, approximately $20,000, will be used to establish the scholarship.

The Peña family says they haven’t heard from Travis Scott about his promise to pay for the victim’s funerals. They covered the expenses on their own with the help of the fundraiser. No help is expected from Scott by the Peñas.

The cause of Rudy Peña’s death is not yet known. The family attorney says it appears he was trampled. They also place the blame squarely on Travis Scott.

The family has already filed one of many lawsuits naming Travis Scott as a defendant. The suit alleges negligence and gross negligence by the concert organizers directly caused Rudy’s passing. We’re keeping his family in our thoughts at this tragic time.
