The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has awarded its prestigious gold certification to the sequel to Eminem and Rihanna’s iconic song “Love The Way You Lie.”

The gold status is given to tracks that sell 500,000 units in the U.S. This is the first such certification awarded to “Love The Way You Lie (Part II).” For Eminem, it is his 64th active RIAA certificate.

“The Monster” songstress was initially reluctant to record a sequel to the massive hit Love The Way You Lie as she believed it would be unfair to create any sequels. She eventually agreed with Eminem’s idea after listening to Skylar Grey’s version of the track.

Love The Way You Lie (Part II) was released in 2011 to critical acclaim. It covers the same topic but from a female (Rihanna’s) perspective. Love The Way You Lie (Part II) was written by Eminem, Skylar Grey and Alex da Kid.
