Missy Elliott is one of the pioneers of hip-hop music. From her colorful outfits and unique videos in the 1990s to her take-no-BS attitude, Elliott is an icon of the genre. Missy now has the honor of her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Work It star was joined by Lizzo and Ciara at the unveiling ceremony. Her star is located right at the front door of Amoeba Records. Missy took the time to honor female contributions to hip-hop.

“To my sisters in hip-hop. I want to say I love each and every one of y’all — he ones that’s popping now, the one’s that’s about to be popping. But I want to give a big shoutout to the godmothers of this, and that is Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Sha-Rock, Angie Stone, Roxanne Shanté, Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa … Y’all are the backs that we stand on, y’all are the foundation. Y’all ran so we could walk. Y’all stood up for something so we could sit comfortably.”

Missy later took to Twitter to show some love and appreciation to her native Virginia. She says that while some said her star was long overdue, it all came together at the right time. Missy is clearly touched by the honor of having her own Walk of Fame star.
