Former Raiders wideout Henry Ruggs III was involved in a fatal DUI crash on Tuesday morning. He’s been charged with driving under the influence resulting in death. Ruggs faces a sentence of two to twenty years in state prison.

The Las Vegas Raiders organization took swift action against Ruggs. He was immediately cut from the team. Now, TMZ is reporting that the official online store of the Raiders has completely removed him from their merchandise selection.

An employee at a nearby sports merchandise retailer said that they were given orders to stop selling anything with the receiver’s name on it. The warning came just hours after the horrific vehicle accident.

Searches for Ruggs’ name on the Raiders online store return no results. Searches for other active members of the roster still work as intended. Clearly this was a calculated move to disassociate from the alleged offender.

Ruggs’ reckless behavior resulted in the death of a 23-year-old woman. Photos from the accident showed a grim, fiery scene. The dangers of drinking and driving were on display for everyone to see, and now Ruggs must face the legal consequences for his actions.

Henry Ruggs III was a first round draft pick out of Alabama last year. Ruggs skipped his senior year with the Crimson Tide to enter the draft. In what appears to be the end of his NFL career, Ruggs wraps up with 921 career yards on 50 receptions and 4 touchdowns. This may mark the end of a promising career, but the fact that a life was needlessly lost is the real story. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family.
