LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh are the Big-3 of the NBA, or rather got the moniker for their penchant for acquiring NBA rings in what seemed like a regular basis. Udonis Haslem, who won right alongside them, and was undoubtedly also responsible for the ride and what it garnered – three championships! He now claims that he was just as much a part of those wins as the others, although often underrated.

Udonis Haslem is currently playing his 19th season in the NBA, third under the legendary Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki who spent a wee bit longer in their pro careers with the league. Udonis Haslem has played specifically with the Miami Heat since 2003 and he claims to have been quiet the key player for the team, a statement that is shared by many fans, although shocking to others.

Haslem boldly states that he was a massive part of those wins in the end, and if it wasn’t for his contributions, then the team wouldn’t have won, even while having Lebron and company on the court. It was in an interview with GQ that these sentiments (and others) came out.

“I don’t care what nobody say, I had my moments and we don’t win none of those rings without me. I did my job and that’s all you can do.”

Of course in sports, it’s quite common for the squeaky wheel to get the grease, and in this case, the athlete that gets all the attention is often the one to get all the glory, but the whole team makes a difference, and especially in cases like this, the whole machine doesn’t work without the essential cogs in the works.

Udonis Haslem is certainly one of these essential cogs and his work on the court now and forever will be honored by those that understand the sport, and in this way, perhaps his statements didn’t come as quite the shock that they were to most.
