Alec Baldwin discharged what he thought was an unloaded weapon on the set of the film, Rust, and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. This has been big news since it occurred a day ago, but the outcry to have Alec Baldwin imprisoned has risen considerably and is still rising.

As of this writing, over 17.5K tweets have been sent out with the hashtag #AlecForPrison, despite the fact that the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department released the actor shortly after questioning. The department made this full statement regarding the actor’s questioning:

“Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Bonanza Creek Ranch movie set of the western “Rust”, October 21, 2021, when an 911 caller reported a shooting on the set.

The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust. Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor.

Ms. Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident. Witnesses continue to be interviewed by detectives.”

The incident calls back memories of when actor and son of martial arts legend, Bruce Lee, was killed on the set of the film The Crow in much the same way. This too trended on Twitter.

CNN reported that it has been revealed that an assistant director on the set, the same one that handed the actor the gun, said the term: “cold gun,” which in Hollywood, means the gun is unloaded. Baldwin trusted this, and the end result is what we’ve seen occur. Whether he was right or wrong to trust the situation for what it was is what has spawned this outcry on Twitter.
