Greta Gerwig is one of the hottest actors in Hollywood. After her project “Little Woman,” Gerwig is going to be helm the live-action Barbie movie. The Oscar-nominated director’s film will have Margot Robbie playing Barbie, which suggests that the film will be for more mature audiences.

Deadline reports, however, that another actor known for very mature and serious role will be playing Ken, Barbie’s on-and-off love interest. Ryan Gosling is going to be playing Ken. While the actor initially distanced himself from the project, production delays made it convenient for the producers to pursue Gosling. Now he is on-board with the project as it awaits kicking off in 2022. Deadline adds:

insiders add that as pre-production dragged out and the studio remained persistent with him being their only choice, an opening in his schedule appeared, allowing him to sign on to the project… The film looks to be on the verge of a greenlight and the hope would be to shoot at the top of 2022.

Margot Robbie isn’t only involved in the project just as the lead actress. She will also be a producer for the film under her LuckyChap Entertainment production banner. She revealed to British Vogue that the role comes with a lot of emotions and factors for her:

[The Barbie movie] comes with a lot of baggage and a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that come a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Maybe I don’t…’

With already a highly accomplished cast, the project looks fantastic and might even appeal to the audiences it’s trying to pull in. With many high-profile movies having come out such as Dune, No Time To Die and The Suicide Squad, Barbie will debut with a warm welcome.
