Squid Game continues to be a worldwide phenomenon. It’s so popular that some internet service providers are charging people more because of the bandwith strain caused by users streaming the hit Korean series.

It was only a matter of time until the acclaimed series from Netflix earned some accolades on the rewards circuit. After making big money for the streaming company, the show is now receiving awards based on its artistic merit.

The first major awards nominations for Squid Game come from the Gotham Awards. Lee Jung-jae is nominated for Outstanding Performance in a New Series. The show was nominated for Breakthrough Series as well.

Squid Game faces off against Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird, HBO’s It’s A Sin and The White Lotus, and Amazon’s The Underground Railroad and Small Axe.

Lee Jung-jae also has some stiff competition for his award. Big names like Ethan Hawke and Anya Taylor Joy dot the list of nominations for Outstanding Performance in a New Series.

Netflix purchased the rights to stream Squid Game for $21.4 million. A second season has not yet officially been confirmed.
