After suffering with complications from Graves’ Disease, a thyroid condition, and a bout with COVID-19 which has kept her away from her daytime gabfest, Wendy Williams appears to have suffered another setback. Originally scheduled to return on September 20, the date keeps getting pushed back, and the outlook looks more grim than ever at this point.

According to an Instagram post by Williams’ production company, Debmar-Mercury, the show won’t be back next Monday. It might not be back anytime soon, at least with Williams as the host.

According to the production company, COVID is not the reason for the delay. Williams is, however, dealing with other ongoing medical issues.

New original episodes will begin airing on October 18, “with an exciting lineup of guest hosts and panels to be announced shortly,” the announcement stated. Page Six is reporting that the company may be interested in grooming Nick Cannon for the job in case Williams is unable to return to the show.

The announcement thanked Williams for her service and emphasized that their star’s health is the top priority going forward. “Wendy is a valued and stalwart member of the Debmar-Mercury family and has been so for 12 years. We want her health to be her top priority. As soon as she’s ready, she will be back in her treasured purple chair.”

Since both Cannon and Williams’ shows air in syndication, there may be issues with simply plugging Cannon in to the same show. Different broadcasters may or may not air both shows, or the shows may air on competing networks in certain markets. There would definitely be some complications in such a transition.

Whatever the fate of her show may be, we wish Wendy a full and fast recovery. Hopefully we’ll see her in that hosting chair again soon!
