It is well known that NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is a huge fan of pro wrestling. He’s made past appearances in WWE and also AEW. He finally got in the ring for AEW, but it didn’t come without stretching the truth a bit.

O’Neal certainly needs no introduction as his accolades both inside and outside the basketball court speak for themselves. The NBA legend has managed to surpass all barriers and become a household name in various mediums.

While there is no doubt that O’Neal is a huge celebrity both literally and figuratively, it seems the basketball legend isn’t quite keen on being considered a celebrity anymore.

While speaking to New York Post about his Kellogg campaign, Shaquille O’Neal explained why he no longer considers himself as a celebrity and wants to distance himself from the tag.

“These celebrities are going freaking crazy and I don’t want to be one. I denounce my celebrity-ness today. I’m done with it… I don’t want to be in that category. Celebrities are crazy, they really are.

Don’t call me that anymore. These people are out of their freaking minds with how they treat people, what they do, what they say. That’s never been me. I never want to be looked at like that.

All my life, everyone probably gets stereotyped, but us celebrities, we get stereotyped because most of these celebrities are out of their mind. I don’t do that. I’m a regular person that listened, followed his dreams, and made it. But just because I made it doesn’t mean I’m bigger than you. Just ’cause I made it doesn’t mean I’m smarter than you. Just ’cause I have more money than you doesn’t mean I’m better than you. I’ve never been that way, and I’ll never be that way. So, I don’t want to be in that category with them people.”

O’Neal is simply happy living his life the way he wants to and if he feels that he no longer is a celebrity, then fans simply have to accept that fact.
