Grey’s Anatomy is currently one of the longest-running television shows out there, with its 17th season having ended a while ago. The show made its debut in 2005 and was a smash hit with fans and critics alike. It remains ABC’s most popular drama.

Throughout its duration, the show has featured several characters being killed off or actors leaving the show. It was reported earlier that fan-favorite Jesse Williams confirmed that he will be leaving the show and that happened on an important episode of the show. On top of that, even Greg Germann left the show as a series regular.

Kate Walsh was reported to be making her return to the show for its 18th season, much to the delight of fans. Sandra Oh left the show many years ago and made it clear she is never coming back.

Lynette Rice’s new book, How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy gave more details regarding Isaiah Washington’s exit from the show back in 2007. Isaiah, who played Dr. Preston Burke, was fired after the seasons for using a homophobic slur during a physical fight with Patrick Dempsey on set.

Writer Mark Wilding recalled how the fight between Patrick Dempsey & Isaiah Washington took place.

It was my episode. I think one of them had been late to set one day and the other one then decided to pay him back by being late himself. Then it sort of exploded. They got into an arguing match, and then before you know it they were physically fighting. I was standing there in video village. I’m, like, six feet four inches. I’m bigger than both of them. But I didn’t really jump in right away because I’m like, I don’t know if I want to get involved.

And Isaiah, for whatever reason that day, just took that the wrong way and he went after Patrick,” Harry Werksman, who was also a writer on set that day, says. “I guess he felt disrespected that he and the crew had been waiting. He went after Patrick, pushed him up against the wall, and said, ‘You can’t talk to me the way you talk to that little f***** T.R.

Everyone knew T.R. [Knight] was gay. For some reason, Isaiah just lost it and pinned Patrick up against the wall. You could see Isaiah’s pupils go wide, like, ‘What did I do?’ It was quiet. Everyone had to leave the set.

Patrick Dempsey himself left the show back in 2015 as he simply wanted to spend more time with his family. Season 18 of the show will be starting on September 30 and we will have to wait and see how it will fare compared to the previous seasons.
