Kanye West had quite a career since he burst into the scene. His latest Donda release topped the charts as he created controversy and intrigue around the album’s release. Things could have been a lot different now if Birdman signed Ye instead.

While speaking to Big Facts, Birdman revealed why he passed on signing Kanye West back in the day. He decided to go with Mannie Fresh instead, because he wasn’t going to disrespect him by taking Ye up on a producer offer.

“Kanye West was with me before he was Kanye West. I knew he was special, I let him go because I had Mannie Fresh. Kanye came to me as a producer, and I wasn’t ever going to disrespect Mannie Fresh because I started with Fresh. It was either gonna be Fresh or Ye, so I had to let Ye go. He went to Roc-A-Fella, I flew him to Roc-A-Fella. We always kept a bond, but he was living with me at my house.”

Kanye West did okay for himself despite not getting a job with Birdman. He became one of the most prolific rappers alive and continues making ton of noise whenever he steps into the studio.

Still, it also makes us wonder how history would be different if Birdman hired Kanye instead.
