Manny Pacquiao is touted as one of the top boxers in the world of professional boxing right now and has faced the best of the best the sport has to offer. Pacquiao was set to square off against the undefeated welterweight boxer Errol Spence Jr. on August 21st. However, the match ended up being cancelled after Spencer suffered a torn retina in his left eye.

Instead of Errol Spence Jr., Manny Pacquiao squared off against Yordenis Ugas. Many fans believed it was going to be an easy win for Ugas as he is nowhere near Spence Jr.’s level.

However, that was not what happened as Yordenis Ugas went all 12 rounds with Manny Pacquiao and pulled off a shocking upset victory against the former eight-division world champion. Pacquiao made it clear that his future in the profession was uncertain after his loss.

According to Deadline, Manny Pacquiao officially announced that he will be running for President of the Philippines as he accepted the nomination for president during the national assembly of the PDP-Laban Party.

“I am a fighter, and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring,’ Pacquiao said in a live-streamed speech during the assembly. ‘I am accepting your nomination as candidate for president of the Republic of the Philippines.”

While Pacquiao’s career in boxing might be over, it seems his political career has only just begun. It remains to be seen whether he will become the President of the Philippines or not.
