Virtual DJ battle webcast series Verzuz saw great success during the COVID-19 pandemic. The format may now be expanded to other art forms as well, including stand-up comedy, with comedian Katt Williams discussing the possibility of a Verzuz battle against fellow comedian Kevin Hart.
In a recent interview with Baltimore radio host Perisa Nicole, Williams cockily declared that the only comedian he considers as his competition is Richard Pryor. Consequently, he went on to say, he would not shy away from a battle against Kevin Hart.
It’s almost cheating for me. I have over 10 specials. I don’t have to pick but two jokes from each special and I’ve already deaded anyone whose last name isn’t Pryor anyway.
Williams had also previously challenged Hart to an open battle for $5 million. In a video posted online, Williams had said that we was open to “a full-court basketball court, a boxing ring, two microphones for a rap cypher, or [Hart could] get [his] ass dusted in comedy on that stage.”
Hart had refused to entertain Williams’ challenge, he did respond when Williams went after Hart’s close associate, Tiffany Haddish. The comedian took William’s comments about Haddish to heart, and said:
When you say Tiffany Haddish doesn’t deserve or isn’t really a comedian and these other women have worked hard, which they have. Katt Williams, have you ever used your platform to fucking bring the people under you up? You haven’t! So because you haven’t, don’t shit on those that are!
Hart had responded to these comments by blaming Williams’ drug use for the decline in his career. The comedian recently offended Don Cheadle by reacting to his age. Back in July, he also revealed why he refused the offer which would have allowed him to go to space.
