Demi Lovato has been subject to a lot of headlines as of late. The 29-year old singer & artist is very vocal about the insensitivity towards the LGBTQ+ community. They even blasted DaBaby after he became infamous through his homophobic comments.

Lovato has been going after anti-LGBTQ social constructs hard. They slammed coming-out parties as transphobic. As rumors of their and Noah Cyrus’ relationship swirl around, the artist has become part of the headlines once again.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s The 19th, the singer revealed that they’re “fluid” to such a degree that they might fully come out as trans someday. Lovato’s currently identifies as non-binary, which might become subject to change sometime soon.

There might be a time where I identify as trans. I don’t know what this looks like for me. There might be a time where I identify as non-binary and gender-nonconforming my entire life. Or maybe there’s a period of time when I get older that I identify as a woman, I don’t know what that looks like, but for me, in this moment right now, this is how I identify.

Lovato expressed that when their engagement with Max Ehrich came to an end, it helped them realize that they can stand “own two feet without needing someone else to validate.” Lovato also added:

And when I said goodbye to that relationship, I also said goodbye to everything that was holding me back from being my most authentic self.

The artist came out as pansexual earlier this year. They even expressed that a heterosexual relationship with Ehrich was what made them feel like they had to hide who they really were. Now that Lovato’s out of the closet, it’s definitely a big relief for them.
