LeBron James wants to make sure that the LA Lakers don’t experience another elimination in the first-round of the NBA Playoffs. He’s apparently been hard at work recruiting for his team to fill out a roster that obviously needs some work.

The Lake Show was able to acquire Russell Westbrook in a huge trade, but they had their eye on another former All Star prior to that. According to Chris Hayes of Yahoo Sports, King James personally recruited DeMar DeRozan to join the team next season.

“James understood the importance of bringing in a third star at this juncture of his career. San Antonio Spurs unrestricted free agent DeMar DeRozan was in talks with James, sources said, but the Westbrook deal eliminated that option because it would have required a sign-and-trade scenario and a Kuzma inclusion. The Lakers are not done making moves.”

It was also indicated that the Lakers picking up Westbrook will make it harder for DeRozan to make his way to LA. Now the LA Lakers have less salary cap space, and they also sent a lot of those precious tradable assets to the Wizards in order to get Russell Westbrook in the first place.

We’ll have to see what the Lakers squad looks like when next season rolls around, but they are working on building a stronger team.
