Pat Riley just said that he would leave a shiny key under the doormat if LeBron James would come back to the Miami Heat. That was over the line and now he’s paying for it.

“I would leave the key under the doormat if he would call me and let me know that he’s coming,” Riley said on Friday. “I would do that, but I doubt very much that key — that key is rusted now.”

According to TMZ Sports, Riley has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for contract tampering. Riley’s comments, although they could be interpreted as a joke, were obviously valid enough to warrant this fine. After all, there is usually a morsel of truth in every joke.

Riley orchestrated the Heat’s “Big 3” with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and that team saw great success. You can never say never in the sporting world, but LeBron seems content in the Lake Show right now.

King James sent out a video clip from Gladiator where he promised to seek vengeance. We’ll have to see how the Lakers look next season.

Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
