Bellator 259 saw Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg defend her title against Leslie Smith in a highly anticipated fight. Cybrog was successful in retaining her title after winning via TKO. Cyborg has defended her title twice in a row now. After the triumphant win, Cyborg called out third-ranked featherweight Cat Zingano for her next title defense.

While speaking on the post-fight press conference, Cyborg explained why she called out Zingano for her next fight. Cybrog stated that she’s been competing in the MMA world for 16 years and she needs to beat Zingano so that Cyborg can call herself the greatest female fighter of all time.

“You know, I have 16 years of fighting experience. You cannot be a GOAT if you’re scared of Cat. So, I asked to see if Scott Coker agreed, I would like to fight Cat Zingano. No disrespect to her. I know she is a real fighter, but I think it’s going to be a great fight between us.”

Cybrog usually fights only twice a year but it seems she is more than determined to compete as soon as possible. The decision ultimately rests on Bellator executives Scott Coker and Mike Kogan.

“(I want to fight) as soon as possible. I always am training. I’ve been training for a long time. I don’t just train for the camp. I train all year. When it’s close to the fight, I just do something different for my opponent but any time Scott Coker wants to ask me for a fight or to talk to my manager, I know I’m ready.”

Cat Zangano is one of the top fighters in the promotion and her credentials certainly warrant a fight against Cris Cyborg. We will have to see if it takes place or not.
