The Rock has been called a lot of things. He is the Most Electrifying Sports Entertainer in history, and he’s a Hollywood Juggernaut. You wouldn’t think to call Dwayne Johnson a girl now, but that wasn’t the case when he was a kid.

While speaking to the Today Show, The Rock revealed that when he was between the ages of 7 and 11, he used to have to deal with plenty of questions about his gender. People thought he was a girl because of his soft Afro hair.

“I sit down next to a kid, and within 60 seconds, he goes, ‘Can I ask you something?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Are you a boy or a girl?'”

“I would say between the ages of 7 and 11, people thought that I was a little girl because I had really soft features and I had really soft Afro hair.”

The Johnson Family wasn’t rich while The Rock was growing up. Fans can witness this for themselves as Young Rock tells the story of The Great One’s childhood. That NBC series was just picked up for a second season as well.

The Rock’s life hasn’t always been full of amazing success. He had to make it through tough times, living paycheck to paycheck, like a lot of people. Some even thought he was a girl along the way.

With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
