Eminem is into cassette tape collecting, because he is a scholar of music. One tape is his prized possession and he’s very proud to own it.

Marshall Mathers himself jumped in a room during Shady Con this past week and spoke with Paul Rosenberg and DJ Whoo Kid. The subject of conversation was tape collecting, something near and dear to Slim Shady’s heart.

Eminem said that the biggest piece to his collection is his ‘Illmatic’ cassette tape. He had to have it, and it’s rare. Nobody had that Nas record and didn’t open it.

“I’ve been collecting since I was a kid, everything from comic books to baseball cards to toys, as well as every rap album on cassette I could get my hands on. Not much has changed for me as an adult.”

“I think it’s backstock from what records stores had in the back storage. The tapes that never sold and they just kept them,” he said. “That’s the only thing I can think of. Cause nobody’s going to have a fucking Illmatic tape and not open that sh*t?”

Em certainly has the money to throw around when he wants something. It’s very interesting to know that he’s an enthusiast of collecting those little pieces of music history like unopened cassette tapes.

Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News opened the door for a new opportunity for Jenkins. With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
