Macklemore’s struggle with addiction have been the centerpiece of many interviews for him. He has also dedicated a few songs to the subject. He recently revealed that the pandemic saw him relapse once again.

During Dax Shepard’s Armchair Podcast, Macklemore spilled the beans about his sobriety. He slipped up during the pandemic and started using again. This is still a struggle for the Thrift Shop rapper as he continues to count his days.

Macklemore talked about a previous episode of Shepard’s podcast where he admitted to falling off the wagon after 16 years of sobriety. The rapper said that resonated with him as he realized that relapsing is not a sign of failure.

“I really, really resonated with the episode. It was within two months of my COVID relapse, and the disease of addiction is crazy. It made me feel, as someone that had relapsed again, like a month or two before, that I’m not alone.”

“I’ve spent most of the last 11 years in recovery, and it’s made me who I am. I’ve compromised my life and other people around me, I’ve done things that I’m not proud of, but I do have that foundational level of 10 years of recovery, and I’m f*cking proud of that.”

The pandemic was a tough time for a lot of people and many went through personal struggles. Macklemore was able to get through the experience and capture a new outlook on his journey through life in the process. Recovery is never easy, but it is one day at a time.

Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News opened the door for a new opportunity for Jenkins. With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
