Many people didn’t know who Paris Hilton was until her sex tape “leaked.” That sudden burst into everyone’s living rooms (and laptops) made Paris Hilton a household name. The whole experience also gave her PTSD, something she revealed in a recent interview.

Vanity Fair spoke to the 40-year-old Hilton about her rise to fame, and she opened up about that sex tape. Hilton said it will hurt her for the rest of her life. The socialite also revealed that it’s always in the back of her mind and heartbreaking as well.

“That will always be something that will hurt me for the rest of my life.”

“It’s always there in the back of my mind. When it happened, people were so mean about it to me. The way that I was spoken about on nightly talk shows and the media, to see things with my family was just heartbreaking. I would be in tears every single day, I didn’t want to leave my house, I felt like my life was over.”

Rick Salomon and Paris Hilton’s illicit sex tape went viral and was downloaded all over the internet during early peer-to-peer share software days. Titled, “1 Night in Paris,” the footage showed the couple during their 2001 escapades.

The media sensation still hurts Paris Hilton as it was such a private experience exposed for so many.

“It was a private experience between two people. You love someone, you trust someone and to have your trust betrayed like that and for the whole world to be watching and laughing … It was even more hurtful to me to have these people think that I did this on purpose — that killed me. It still gives me post-traumatic stress disorder to talk about it.”

“I had always looked up to these amazing women like Princess Diana and I just felt like when he did that to me, [he] took that all away from me and people would never look at me the same.”

Solomon appeared in the “1 Night in Paris” video for Vivid, so he signed off on the film’s distribution. That experience is one that Paris Hilton would love to forget, but it is apparently an impossibility at this point.
