Lamar Odom’ issues with gambling were a big problem at one point and support was needed. Kobe Bryant was there for his former teammate and offered to help him out in a big way.

While speaking to the All the Smoke podcast, Odom said he gave Kobe Bryant a call when he needed some help. He was in gambling problems, and it was a steep debt. Kobe wasn’t one to mess around, but he offered to lend a helping hand. That was also the last time to two spoke before Bryant’s tragic passing.

“I had been gambling. It got a little too steep for where I was at at that time. It was getting tight. And if you in a bad situation, especially about some money, [Bryant] ain’t the one that you gonna wanna call.”

“I gathered up the strength. I put my pride to the side. And I gave him a call.”

“After he went in, he was just like, ‘Have your people call my people, and we’ll figure it out.’ That was one before the last time that I spoke to him.”

Kobe Bryan’s memory will live on through everyone who watched him play, and in those he inspired along the way. He was also one to be there for his friends, and Odom was lucky to have had him around.

With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
