Iconic civil-rights activist Malcolm X is widely regarded as one of the most influential African American leaders of all time. His assassination is still a hot-topic amongst a lot of conspiracy theorists and many believe that the national authorities had a part to play in his death.
On the 56th anniversary of his death, Malcolm X’s family members and lawyers have released a letter written by former FBI Agent Raymond Wood which seems to imply that Malcolm X’s assassination was orchestrated by the FBI and the NYPD.
The full contents of this letter were posthumously released to the public by Wood’s cousin and were read at a press conference on Saturday. The press conference was attended by Malcolm X’s three daughters and members of Raymond Wood’s family.
The letter suggests that Wood was assigned with the task to systematically lure two men into committing a series of crimes so that they could be falsely convicted in the murder of Malcolm X. According to the letter, Wood acted out his orders in fear of his superiors and it also reveals some important details about other events connected to the assassination of Malcolm X.
Wood had reportedly requested that the letter only be made public after his death.
Malcolm X’s daughter Ilyasah Shabazz spoke at the press conference on Saturday and encouraged the authorities to reinvestigate into the matter:
“Any evidence that provides greater insight into the truth behind that terrible tragedy should be thoroughly investigated,” she said.
We will have more updates on this story as newer details surface in the coming days. Stay tuned.
