The state of Texas is currently recuperating from the winter storm that left millions of residents without power and water. Dozens of Texans have lost their lives, the latest among whom is Cristian Pavon, an 11-year old boy who was found dead in his bed on Monday morning.

Though the boy’s cause of death is yet to be determined, authorities suspect that he was a victim of hypothermia from freezing temperatures in his mobile home that suffered a power loss.

The Houston Chronicle reported that the boy was unresponsive to his mother’s wake-up calls on Monday morning.

“He was already dead”

Cristian, like all other children his age, was excited to play in the unusual Texas snow for the first time in his life. His mother explained that he was an otherwise healthy boy with no illnesses.

[It was his] “first time (seeing snow). That’s why he was excited outside, Everything was well. He was happy that day. He was not at all sick.”

The Pavon-Pineda family moved to Texas from Honduras a couple years ago. They have set up a GoFundMe page to help send his remains back to the country.  American President Joe Biden approved a major disaster declaration in the state, allowing for more federal aid to be funneled through.

Our heartfelt condolences to Cristian’s friends and family and all those who have been affected by the winter storm.
